Terminology
Similar to a file storage system and/or CRM, we have an organizational model with the following groupings:
- Portfolio - A Portfolio is a group of Projects. For example, a User may create a Portfolio that contains various Projects in a specific market.
- Project - A Project is a distinct site/location and can have various Designs associated with it.
- Design - A Design is a technology configuration. Tyba supports a broad range of technology configurations across Solar, Storage, and Solar + Storage.
Other key terms and concepts are:
- Auto-Generate Price and Revenue Models - When creating a new Project or Scenario Analysis, you have the ability to allow Tyba to auto-generate the Dispatch Price Model and Revenue Model for that Project/Design. For Standalone Storage projects, this will default to the storage participating in the day-ahead wholesale energy market and various ancillary services markets and uses the most recent calendar year of pricing for that node to generate the operational profile and revenue estimates. For PV + Storage projects, this will default to the PV + Storage resource participating in the day-ahead wholesale energy market and uses the most recent calendar year of pricing for that node to generation the operational profile (for storage) and revenue estimates (for the PV + Storage).
- Forward Curves - For Users that have views on future pricing, they are able to upload that price information via an Excel file. This Forward Curve is ultimately used to set the Price Model and/or Revenue Model.
- LMP - LMP stands for Location Marginal Pricing and represents the market clearing price for a specific node or region. For Users that have a subscription to Tyba's LMP Pricing module, they can leverage the LMP (Day ahead, Real Time, and Ancillary Services) to set the Price Model and/or Revenue Model.
- Dispatch Price Model - The Dispatch Model is specific to a Design, and informs how the energy storage component of the design will operate (or dispatch). The dropdown menu for the Dispatch Model includes all of the active Price Models that you (or your org) have created.
- Price Model - The Price Model is a rules based mechanism that allows Users to create pricing signals that inform how a Design operates. A Price Model could be a utility tariff, PPA, hedge, forward curve, historical price, etc. If evaluating a Design that includes energy storage, the Price Model will set how the energy storage is dispatched.
- Revenue Model - The Revenue Model when paired with the energy production of the Design enables the User to understand the expected revenue of that Design. Typically, a Design will have the same Price Model, Dispatch Model (if there is storage), and Revenue Model. However, we provide flexibility for Users to have these be distinct, as there may be scenarios where the dispatch signal (set by the Dispatch Model dropdown in the Design) and corresponding revenue (set by the Revenue Model) are different.
- Scenario Analysis - This workflow allows users of Tyba's web application to conduct 10s, 100s, or even 1000s of simulation on potential project designs for a single site (Project) or multiple sites (Projects).
